What’s gone wrong with money?
‘What has gone wrong with this wonderful idea called money, which can connect human talents with human needs?’
This is the first question Charles poses in Sacred Economics. I find it a beautiful, powerful question. Money as a beautiful idea—an instrument that helps us exchange and connect, a symbol for our innate desire to be creative, make dreams come true, and bestow our fellow human beings and the planet with gratitude and love.
The question also offers a solution: turn money into this beautiful idea again.
But if a turn is needed, where did money go wrong?
Did money go wrong?
My short answer now is no. Money is what it is because of what we make it to be—every day, through our thinking and acting, in dealings big and small.
And we have more to say about this making than most would think.
But to realise this myself, I first had to backtrack all the way to money’s very basics.
